Hello My Name is Paul Smith Exhibition @ The Lighthouse Glasgow 21 January - 20 March 2016

Good evening readers!

I am pleased to share with you all my experience yesterday at the Paul Smith exhibition at the Lighthouse Glasgow called - Hello My Name is Paul Smith. This is a touring exhibition from the Design Museum, London and will be here in Glasgow until the 20th March 2016 and I can assure it is not to be missed!

The Lighthouse Glasgow is an excellent host for this event and I was extremely pleased and impressed with what great effort and what level of intricacy and detail they have dedicated to it; to set up such an enjoyable and most interesting exhibition. The cost of entry for this event is £6 and £4 for students/concessions. For people interested in fashion as much as I am.. this is not be missed. Having said that... The exhibition is very informative about Paul Smith's life and how he created and became inspired to turn his dreams into a reality.

Paul has selected pieces from his collection of prints and photographs from the walls of his office in Covent Gardens that he has been collecting since he was young.

There are so many to look through and a few interesting ones caught my eye such as Andy Warhol as well as pieces that have been sent to him over the years from admirers/friends etc..

It is interesting to see from where Paul draws his inspiration and his art wall is a true demonstration of this..

The exhibit runs in like a sort of timeline of Paul's life and they have cleverly reconstructed a 3 x 3m squared replica of what Pauls first shop would have been like..

One particular quote that caught my eye from Paul was "It's important to have a dream but also to be able to support that dream.." Paul realised he had a dream and a vision but was also aware of the sacrifice and commitment it would take to make this dream into what he has developed today.. I believe this to be truly admirable..

There is a replica of Paul's bedroom in Paris in 1976 where he sold his first collection.

There are also some of Paul's hand drawn designs and fabric samples..

I have to admit.... Up until this exhibition I was not very aware of Paul Smith.. Like I knew who he was and was aware of his iconic and signature designs but I was not very aware of the story of his life or much about his past which has been most interesting to discover in this exhibition. Might sound cheesy.... But it is delightful and gives me great pleasure to see a timeline of how someone has developed and created such success and just makes me think... Anyone who has a vision and a dream can chase it and be who they aspire to be.

Selfie time! ahaha

Loved this particular canvas...! It really emulates Paul.

A collection of photos of Pauls shops from all over the world..

There is a replica of Paul's office in Covent Garden and it is jammed packed full of stuff to say the least! A definite array of objects and ideas that have inspired Paul..

And now for something pretty spectacular! The button wall!...

The is also a reconstruction of Pauls current design studio..

Now on to one of my favourite parts of the exhibition... Some pieces from Paul's key collections and some footage of Paul's recent catwalk shows. In which some of the pieces in the exhibition are featured..

There is a really quirky part of the exhibition which displays various items (random) I might add... That Paul has been sent by unknown admirers. "The stamped objects are a varied collection of unexpected objects that have been stamped and posted to Paul". They range from strange to a bit bizarre and include a banana, a surf board and even a traffic cone.

I must add.... This post has been photos overload!! However.. its the best way I figured for me to show to you the exhibition.

As the exhibition draws to a close... There are a display of Pauls work with collaborators which surprised me! I had no idea he had done a design for an HP sauce bottle...

I would definitely recommend visiting the Paul Smith exhibition if it would be something you would be interested in and I think at £6 is a bargain and you will not be disappointed..

Some of the merchandise available to purchase at the end of exhibition.

I really enjoyed my time at the exhibition learning about Pauls life and how he transformed his ideas into a global brand. His story is truly inspiring and I now feel like I know him better as a person/designer/artist/businessman.

The Lighthouse and the Design Museum London have created a wonderful exhibition and I am more than likely to pay it another visit before it leaves Glasgow..

Thank you for taking time to read this or even just to browse through the photos.. But if you are able to - Go check out the exhibition.

Thank you and see you soon!
